BIRTH & LABOR CARE
Labor Doula: Our Certified Labor Doulas provide various forms of emotional, physical and informational support during pregnancy and the childbirth process. Although our Certified Labor/Birth Doulas are non-medical and non-midwifery caregivers, their model of care reflects the values of a midwifery philosophy. Our Certified Labor/Birth Doulas are trained in maternal-fetal positioning, natural pain relief techniques, acupressure, and aromatherapy.
When a mother's birth wishes include avoiding medications and interventions (completely, or just as long as possible), her Tranquil Seasons Doula will be an active, invaluable participant, coaching and supporting her through the process comfortably. During delivery, our Certified Labor/Birth Doulas are in constant, close proximity to the mother at all times. We also encourage participation from the partner and offer reassurance. We act as an advocate for the mother, encouraging her in her desires for her birth - never speaking for her, but facilitating communication with all those involved. The goal of our Doulas is to help the mother have a positive and safe birth experience, whether the mother wants an un-medicated birth or is having a planned cesarean birth.
After delivery, our Certified Labor/Birth Doulas will spend time helping mother and baby begin the breastfeeding process and encourage bonding between the new baby and family members.
Hypnobirth Doula: Our Labor Doula, Tori Scholze, is well-versed in Hypnobirthing and makes an excellent addition to your labor team. She will encourage you to utilize your self-hypnosis techniques, read your guided meditations, and use guided imagery and physical comfort techniques that align with the Hypnobirthing childbirth method.
Placenta Encapsulation and Artwork: You can take charge of your mental, emotional, and physical health during the postpartum period. Consuming your placenta can help to balance your post-pregnancy hormones, replenish depleted iron levels, assist the uterus to return to its pre-pregnancy state, reduce post-natal bleeding, increase milk production, create an enjoyable postnatal period, and increase your energy levels! We will provide suggestions for ingestion and storage. We also offer placenta prints, which is a unique and beautiful keepsake. Enjoy the benefits that your placenta continues to provide!

Gentle Infant Sleep Training: Our highly trained and experienced Sleep Consultants will come into your home, explain the physiological needs of your newborn, and assess your little one’s current sleep habits and day time routines. Once everything is taken into account, including the infant's sleep environment and feeding methods, you will receive written recommendations including a work-into-it plan. After you learn how to help soothe your baby back to sleep using methods specifically recommended for your little one's physical and emotional needs and temperament, you will begin to "work the plan". We can either assist you during the night as a Postpartum Doula /Infant Sleep Coach, or we can offer ongoing support by phone/text/email.
Lactation Consultation: Our Lactation Support and Educator Doulas are available to support you beginning at baby’s first latch. We are there in those first precious moments after birth and we will help you put all the knowledge you learned ahead of time into practice. We recognize that during the first days and weeks at home, breastfeeding habits and needs can change. It's important for your milk supply to match the demands of your baby and it is reassuring to see your baby grow. To begin your care, our Doulas come to you home and help to analyze your situation. If an issue is more complex than our Lactation Support and Educator Doulas can help solve, our IBCLC Lactation Consultant will also come to your home to provide care. Breastfeeding is very important to receive support for, because baby depends on every single feeding. Get help early and don't let a problem go unattended for any amount of time. Every feed is crucial in the first weeks and months.
In-home, Postnatal Massage: Mothers need special physical care within the postpartum period. During this postnatal massage session, our Licensed Massage Therapists will encourage relaxation, reduce pain and stress, improve breastfeeding practices, work to eliminate postnatal swelling, and help to restore your body to its pre-pregnancy state. Postnatal massage is especially helpful for mothers recovering from cesarean delivery.
Bengkung Belly Binding: The belly binding process involves the wrapping a woman’s abdominal region post-delivery. A long strip of cloth is used to intricately wrap mothers from hips to rib cage. Derived from Malaysian culture, this practice is said to have both physical and spiritual/emotional benefits. It provides postural support, promotes abdominal healing, minimizes or prevents back aching, encourages the hips and pelvis to return to their pre-pregnancy state, and is said to provide physical and emotional “closure”.
Hand and Foot Casting: They’re only little for so long! Hand and foot castings make wonderful gifts and keepsakes. Casts are created using a non-toxic molding agent.
Postpartum Blessingway: This ceremony signifies a special time of transition from childbearing to motherhood. It is adopted from a Mexican Bone Closing Ceremony where a woman is said to move from being very open (physically and emotionally) to more of a closed state. During the ceremony, we begin by talking about your birth experience, working to provide closure. Then, we will offer you healing teas and an herbal soak. Once you complete your soak, we will perform massage and rebozo wrapping or sealing. This ceremony is typically done six weeks postpartum. As it is important for your body to heal adequately beforehand. This ceremony is unique to Tranquil Seasons, and I think that it truly sets us apart from other care providers. It is truly a profound experience.
